In 1954 Austin, Texas, Nadine Hightower, a beauty parlour worker, tries to retrieve stolen art studies and inadvertently acquires valuable plans. Pursued by both the police and deadly criminals, Nadine turns to her almost-ex-husband Vernon, the struggling owner of the Bluebonnet Bar, for assistance.
