Korean War veteran George Haverstick and nurse Isabel Crane, affectionately referred to as "Little Bit," get married on December 23rd and plan a honeymoon to Miami with a stop in Tennessee to visit George's friend Ralph and his wife Dorothea. However, their marriage quickly becomes strained as they struggle with incompatible expectations and romanticized views of each other. Meanwhile, Ralph's marriage to Dorothea is also on the rocks, and they share their marital woes with George and Isabel, who seem oblivious to the root causes of their own problems.
