Philby, Burgess and Maclean background

Philby, Burgess and Maclean

In 1949, a group of Cambridge University students are recruited by the Russians and rise through the ranks to become top-secret MI5 agents, but their covert identity is eventually exposed.

In the late 1940s, British intelligence suspects a Russian spy is among them, narrowing it down to a few individuals, including Donald Maclean, who had access to U.S. atomic secrets at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. As they build their case against Maclean, they send Kim Philby to Washington, D.C. to work with the C.I.A., where he's joined by friend Guy Burgess. When Philby learns Maclean is about to be arrested, he sends Burgess to warn him, and both defect to the Soviet Union.
