Murphy seeks justice against the criminals who killed his friend, the sheriff, and kidnapped a local girl. As he tracks them down, the townspeople, initially eager to join the pursuit, eventually abandon him, except for a young banker named Saxon, who wants to prove himself. When they finally find the girl, Murphy shows compassion and understanding towards her, in stark contrast to the others, who are only filled with disgust.
