Americans Alice and Peter Bowman, a married couple working on humanitarian projects, find themselves in Tecala, where Peter's job with oil company QUAD Carbon leads to a shocking discovery: the company's true intention is to build an oil pipeline, not a dam to prevent flooding. As they struggle to cope with their personal issues, including a recent miscarriage, Peter is kidnapped by left-wing guerrillas, the Liberation Army of Tecala.
