Americans Alice and Peter Bowman, a married couple working on humanitarian projects, find themselves in Tecala, where Peter's job with oil company QUAD Carbon leads to a shocking discovery: the company's true intention is to build an oil pipeline, not a dam to prevent flooding. As they struggle to cope with their personal issues, including a recent miscarriage, Peter is kidnapped by left-wing guerrillas, the Liberation Army of Tecala. To negotiate his release, QUAD Carbon hires Terry Thorne, a renowned ex-special ops soldier from Luthan Risk International. However, the company's financial troubles threaten to hinder their efforts. Meanwhile, Alice must decide whether to trust Terry or the local QUAD Carbon representatives, while Terry and Alice develop feelings for each other that complicate their mission to rescue Peter.
