A pirate named Barbarossa rescues a group of Spanish prisoners and turns them into his crew. During a raid, he captures a Spanish countess named Alida and eventually falls in love with her. However, after learning her intended suitor is a coward and liar, Barbarossa tries to win her hand, only to discover she has escaped and is suspected of murdering his aide, Peg-Leg.
