Rainbow on the River

A young boy from the Southern United States embarks on a new journey in New York City after being taken in by distant relatives, leaving behind his family and community roots.

Phillip Ainsworth, an orphan of the U.S. Civil War, is sent to live with a family in New York after being raised by his former slave caregiver, Toinette. Despite initial rejection, he wins over his curmudgeonly grandmother with his charm and good manners, ultimately finding happiness with the help of his butler friend Barrett.
