In the summer of 1973, Glasgow's streets are plagued by dustmen's strikes and overflowing garbage. Amidst the chaos, 12-year-old James's life takes a tragic turn when his friend Ryan drowns during a playful accident. As James struggles to cope with his loss, he finds solace in his relationships with his quirky neighbor Kenny, who shares his love for rodents, and Margaret Anne, a slightly older girl who becomes his confidante.
