A Japanese fisherman, Takata, is reunited with his estranged son Kenichi in a Tokyo hospital, but their reunion is complicated by Kenichi's refusal to see his father. Takata then discovers his son's passion for Chinese opera and decides to travel to Lijiang to record a performance by the lead singer, Li Jiamin, to give to Kenichi.
