Disaster strikes in Badger, a small New York town, when a meteor strike contaminates the air, killing people. Astrobiologist Lauren, tracked by Homeland security, is recruited to find answers. She's drawn into the crisis as a gigantic, otherworldly tree grows at the meteorite impact site. The meteorite is revealed to be an experimental seed sent from a dying world, seeking to grow trees and create a habitable environment for its inhabitants on Earth, before colonizing the planet.
