A young boy named Roman accompanies his mother to Germany, where she is working illegally. They live with a kind-hearted, elderly man named Gert, who is struggling with diabetes. Despite initial reservations, Gert forms a bond with Roman, but the boy's desire for his mother's attention remains. When his mother falls ill, Roman is left to care for Gert, who surprisingly turns out to be a great companion. Tragedy strikes when Gert passes away, leaving Roman alone.
