During the American Civil War, two U.S. Army scouts, Gene Autry and Pat Buttram, are sent to Utah to capture Confederate raider Jim Davis, who is disrupting federal supply lines. They track him to a frontier post, where they encounter Colonel Edgar Dearing, his daughter Gail Davis, and son Bob Steele. However, Walt Steele secretly supports Davis's actions. Gene and Gail are eventually captured by Davis but manage to escape.
