Mary Ann, a young woman from The Bronx, flees her abusive home after being raped. She tries to blend in with the city by renting a cheap apartment and working at a dime store. Feeling overwhelmed, Mary Ann attempts to take her own life on the Manhattan Bridge, but is stopped by Mike, a kind garage mechanic who takes her in. As she grows more attached to Mike, Mary Ann begins to wonder if he's truly her savior or just another predator.
