Two Harvard seniors, Sam and his roommate Lippencott, have planned a two-year adventure in Siberia after graduation, but Sam hasn't shared this with his girlfriend Alex. As graduation approaches, Sam is torn between attending the college's spring dance with Alex and leaving for Siberia. Meanwhile, Lippencott is suspicious of Sam's intentions and plans to ambush him at the dance to ensure he says goodbye to Alex and heads to New York for their departure.
