In the movie, Admiral J. P. Hanson boards the Enterprise to investigate the destruction of a Federation-colonized planet, suspected to be the work of the feared Borg. As they approach the planet, a massive Borg ship is spotted, and the Enterprise engages in battle. Despite being outnumbered, the crew uses innovative tactics to hold off the Borg. Meanwhile, Captain Jean-Luc Picard is ordered to report to the Borg ship, where he is kidnapped and finds himself being assimilated into the Borg Collective. As Picard fights for his life, Commander William T. Riker is left in command of the Enterprise, forced to come up with a plan to rescue his captain and defeat the Borg.
