In 1942, Misha, her Russian mother Gerusha, and German father Reuven hide from the Germans in a small house in Ardennes, Belgium. When her parents are captured, Misha is sent to a German family where she faces abuse. However, she finds solace in the family of Ernest and Marthe, who risk their lives to help her. After Ernest's family is arrested, Misha flees through the woods, surviving with wolves and crossing Germany and Poland to reach Ukraine. Eventually, she returns to her hometown, where she is reunited with Ernest, who reveals her parents did not die in a concentration camp.
