In September 1916, young Indiana Jones works as a motorcycle courier near the Verdun trenches, where his friend Remy is stationed. As a polyglot, Indy is tasked with sneaking into enemy territory and overhears German officers discussing the arrival of powerful artillery guns, Big Bertha. Later, Indy and Remy take leave in Paris, where Indiana meets the enigmatic Mata Hari, an exotic dancer, at a dinner party. Despite being immediately smitten, Indy discovers she is also involved with the French Minister of War.
