A band of Gypsies sets up camp outside a palace, where Oliver's wife kidnaps the Count's daughter, Arline, and flees with her lover. Oliver, unaware of Arline's true identity, raises her as his own with the help of "Uncle" Stanley. Years pass, and Arline, still unaware of her noble heritage, is caught trespassing and thrown into the dungeon.
