A medical conference attendee, Dr. John Hayes, returns home to Pine Castle only to receive a call from Sheriff Tom about a mysterious death and a reported spacecraft crash. As John examines the body, he finds it has not deteriorated despite being held for a week. He is then called to assist with an accident at the Jones' place, where a teenage boy is injured after picking up a piece of metal from the crash site. As Tom investigates the crash, he is overcome by an unseen force, and the aliens begin to recruit John's wife, Rose, to their side, proclaiming themselves the rulers of a New Earth.
