The Cossacks background

The Cossacks

A Cossack's moral code is put to the test as he navigates the dilemma of upholding his peaceful beliefs or seeking validation through combat, amidst the scrutiny of his community and the uncertainty of his beloved's affections.

A young Cossack named Lukashka would rather enjoy life in the woods or romance with Maryana than engage in battle with the Turks. After being publicly shamed and rejected by Maryana, he proves himself a skilled warrior, earning respect from his father and Maryana. Despite still loving her, he ignores her attempts to apologize, as the Tsar's son arrives, seeking Maryana's hand in marriage, and the Turks remain a threat.
