Maxime visits his wealthy father Alexandre and his young Canadian wife Renée in Paris. Renée tells Maxime she married Alexandre after a stillborn child, but their passion has faded. They start an affair and fall in love. Renée asks for a divorce, but on the condition she leaves her fortune invested in Alexandre's business.
