In 1665, New France is colonized by France. Joseph Côté flees prison to avoid hanging, adopting a Jesuit identity and hiding in the Beaufort seigneury, where men await "daughters of the king" - French women sent to marry. At night, he discovers werewolves terrorizing the village, complicating matters when he falls for Marie Labotte, a "daughter of the king" unwanted by others.
