The Life of the Party background

The Life of the Party

In Santa Barbara, a diverse group of strangers - a doctor, a singer, her manager, and a wealthy couple - find themselves swept up in a romantic web as the singer and her wealthy suitor's feelings for each other deepen.

A group of characters, including Dr. Molnac and his musical troupe, arrive in Santa Barbara. Barry Saunders falls for Mitzi Martos, a singer, but she leaves before he can learn her name. Barry hires a detective to find her, but he fails. Mitzi and her agent try to get her an audition with Dr. Molnac, while Barry's mother reminds him he'll lose his inheritance if he marries before 30. Barry proposes to Mitzi three years in the future, but their romance is disrupted when Joe, who wants to marry Mitzi, steals her shoes. Barry follows Mitzi to her room, where she accuses him of stealing her shoes. Barry overhears Mitzi's mother suggesting she marry Joe, and he pretends to be Mitzi's new husband to avoid the marriage.
