King Henry II keeps his wife, Eleanor, locked away due to her attempts to overthrow him, allowing him to pursue his mistress. Eleanor, still affectionate towards the King, plots his demise and the rise of her preferred son, Richard, to the throne. The King's youngest son, John, is his favorite, but his eagerness for power leads him to plot against his father with his middle brother, Geoffrey, and the young King of France, Phillip.
