A rugged Australian sergeant develops an unlikely connection with two orphaned children, a brother and sister, and takes it upon himself to guide the young boy towards maturity before he departs.

A Sergeant in the Queen's Australian army befriends two orphaned children on his last night in World War I and decides to take them with him. He raises the boy to become the national boxing champion and sends the girl to a prestigious girls' school. As adults, the boy and girl develop romantic feelings for each other, despite being unaware they are not siblings.
