The film's narrative is partly told through flashbacks to the 1930s, when Charlie's parents faced the difficult decision to leave their mountain home for employment and better opportunities in Ohio. The film features traditional musicians who perform all the music, showcasing the traditional Appalachian genres of Old Time and Bluegrass.
