Retired justice agent Benjamín Espósito is writing a novel based on a 1999 case, the brutal rape and murder of Liliana Coloto. The case still haunts him and his colleagues, including his assistant Pablo Sandoval and department chief Irene Menéndez-Hastings, who he has always been attracted to. Benjamín is convinced that Isidoro Gómez is the real killer, despite the department's other suspects, and seeks closure by revisiting the case and speaking to the key players, including Irene. However, Gómez's whereabouts remain unknown, and Benjamín must confront his own passions and biases in order to uncover the truth.
