A young man named Joe is severely injured after being thrown by a wild horse, a strawberry roan. His father, Walt, becomes enraged and tries to shoot the horse, but is stopped by their foreman, Gene Autry. The horse escapes and Autry, who is subsequently fired by Walt, tracks it down and trains it, intending to return it to Joe in the hopes that it will inspire him to overcome his disability.
