Voyage of Terror: The Achille Lauro Affair

The terrorists demand that 50 Palestinians be released from Israeli prisons, but the ship's captain transmits a message to the world, and the international community begins to mobilize to rescue the hostages. As the standoff continues, Molqi becomes increasingly desperate, and the passengers begin to suspect that something is amiss. The ship's captain tries to negotiate with the terrorists, but they eventually decide to murder Leon Klinghoffer, a move that shocks the other passengers. The terrorists, realizing their plan has failed, eventually surrender to the Syrian authorities, but not before they are overheard discussing their plans on the radio. The American Secret Service intercepts this message and concocts a plan to capture the terrorists. On October 12, the Boeing carrying the terrorists and Abu Abbas is forced to land in Sicily, where they are eventually handed over to the Italian authorities. The kidnappers are tried and sentenced to prison, and Abu Abbas remains at large.
