Matt Boone, a man accused of murder, flees Waco and joins an outlaw gang led by Curly Ivers. After a botched bank heist, Matt is captured and brought back to Waco, where he's offered a chance to become sheriff and clean up the town. However, his efforts are hindered by Kathy Clark and her cowhands, who initially view him as a killer. Meanwhile, Matt's former gang is captured by the Texas Rangers, except for Lou Garcia, who vows to kill Matt.
