In this movie, a wealthy man named Lennox manipulates and betrays a poor country girl named Anna, tricking her into a fake wedding and leaving her pregnant. After her baby's death, Anna finds work with Squire Bartlett, but her past haunts her and she rejects David's affections. When Lennox returns, Anna refuses to reveal his true nature and instead exposes him as the father of her dead child, ruining his reputation.
