Rock musician Bob Geldof is moved by the Ethiopian famine on TV in 1984 and rallies his pop friends to record a charity single. He then plans a global rock concert, enlisting promoter Harvey Goldsmith to help. Despite disagreements and unfulfilled wishes, the event succeeds with Prince Charles and Princess Diana in attendance.
