Ximei background

Ximei

In the 1990s, China's policy of paying poor farmers to donate blood in unsanitary conditions led to a devastating AIDS outbreak. One courageous Chinese peasant woman takes a stand, bravely fighting to help her fellow AIDS patients.

Ximei, a young peasant woman from rural China, contracted AIDS due to the government's "Black Blood Economy" in the late 1990s. The government encouraged impoverished villagers to sell their blood plasma, leading to a massive HIV epidemic that affected 300,000 people. Despite a cover-up, Ximei fought for the rights of AIDS victims, overcoming discrimination and securing proper medication for them.
