On a University of California campus, Professor Pavlic teaches the origin of man and the English language, while his students perform dramatic reenactments of their traumatic pasts. Meanwhile, he receives anonymous love letters, which he believes are from a student. The truth is revealed when a lesbian student confesses her feelings, only to be abruptly expelled. The next day, the police inform the professor that the student had attempted to take her own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. However, the student miraculously survives and returns to class, revealing that she had a change of heart and reunited with a former lover at a homeless shelter.
