In a 1950s American suburb, Josephine, a young housewife, is dissatisfied with her life and marriage to Frank, who is controlling and unappreciative. After discovering an infomercial for "The Contraction Contraption," a machine that transfers childbirth pain to the father, Josephine signs up, hoping it will change her life. After a long labor, Josephine gives birth to a baby girl, but the machine fails to deliver the promised pain to Frank. As they return home, they encounter a surprise that leaves them both stunned.
