In 2007, California's real estate industry was booming, with mortgage banks hiring left and right. Devin Weiss, a charismatic mortgage broker, recruited Jason Kelley, who was struggling financially, into the field. Devin convinced Jason that to succeed, one had to bend the rules, as everyone else was doing, from appraisers to bond traders. Jason abandoned his morals and became embroiled in a world of deception, culminating in a disastrous trip to the Mortgage Brokers convention in Las Vegas.
