Peter Weston, a music sales clerk, meets Irish woman Moira O'Shannon on a ship returning to England. Despite being engaged to Vanessa, Moira's fiancé Albert is away in South America. Peter inherits a tame alligator named Daisy, which he wants to get rid of, but Moira, an animal lover, helps him care for it. As Peter navigates his feelings for Moira and tries to hide Daisy from his fiancée, he gets into misadventures and discovers others who share his affection for the alligator.
