In a small rural town in the 1950s, 16-year-old Jimmy struggles to survive poverty and a dysfunctional family after his father's mysterious death. His mother, Agnes, becomes disconnected from her children and falls into a world of alcoholism and casual sex. As Jimmy's older sister leaves home, he must decide whether to stay and support his mother and younger brother or leave town himself.
