In 1860, France's chicken population is devastated by a cholera outbreak. Louis Pasteur and his assistant Emile Roux investigate, discovering the disease can be transmitted through air. Despite a debilitating stroke, Pasteur continues working with Roux, leading to the development of the first vaccination for chickens. They then apply their knowledge to create a vaccine for sheep, successfully treating anthrax. Undeterred by skepticism, Pasteur and Roux continue experimenting, eventually developing the world's first human vaccine after successfully treating a young boy with rabies.
