Harriet Tubman, born into slavery, longs for freedom and hopes to escape to the "promise land". She learns of the Underground Railroad, a route guided by "conductors" to the North, and decides to take a chance. After making it to the main station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she discovers the various routes slaves can take to freedom. Determined to free her family, she heads South, becoming known as the "Moses of her people" with a $40,000 reward posted for her capture. She successfully rescues her family and 300 slaves on 17 dangerous missions to the Confederate South.
