Prince Ashoke, heir to the Magadha Kingdom, leaves his royal life to live in the wild and falls in love with Kaurwaki. He returns to Magadha, only to be told she's been killed. Heartbroken, he meets Devi, a Buddhist woman who rescues him and nurses him back to health. They get married, but Ashoke's father rejects Devi due to her different race. Ashoke and Devi flee to Ujjaini, where Devi becomes pregnant, sparking jealousy among Ashoke's step-brothers. Ashoke vows to avenge his mother's death by killing his step-brothers, but his quest for revenge leads him to discover that Kaurwaki, the queen of Kalinga, is still alive.
