A wealthy man hires a detective to investigate his nephew's intentions to marry his daughter, but the detective is murdered and the couple flees to India. Meanwhile, an old friend of the family becomes suspicious of the groom's dishonesty and helps the bride escape to San Francisco, where they are pursued by the groom and ultimately rescued by Scotland Yard and a detective named Charlie Chan.
