In 18th century France, Cartouche, a former member of a notorious gang, forms his own group and becomes a Robin Hood-like figure, stealing from the wealthy and giving to the poor. He gains the admiration of the people and the love of Venus, but also the enmity of the police and his former gang, the Malichot's. Despite his cunning escapes, Cartouche ultimately falls prey to the trap of love, which will ultimately lead to his downfall.
