In 1609, the Spanish Inquisition sends Judge Rostegui to a pagan region to purge it of witches. He arrives in a coastal village with no men, where five women are arrested and subjected to torture to confess to witchcraft. Horrified by the brutality, Ana convinces the others to invent a story about the Satanic Sabbat ritual to appease Rostegui. As he becomes increasingly suspicious, the women use their imagination and Basque traditions to try to save their lives.
