In the old West, a small town is controlled by a ruthless mob boss and his cohorts. After the sheriff's mysterious death, the mob boss appoints the town drunk as the new sheriff, expecting him to be ineffective. However, the new sheriff hires Tom Destry, son of a legendary lawman, as his deputy. Tom arrives and surprises everyone with his unassuming nature, not carrying a gun. But beneath his mild exterior lies a fierce determination to uphold justice, which soon becomes apparent to the townspeople, including the ruthless mob boss.
