Obstetrician Martin Bamford, reeling from discovering his wife's infidelity with his best friends, escapes to the Cornish village of Port Isaac, where he had spent his childhood. As an outsider, he struggles to fit in, but eventually finds solace in a carefree life working on a fishing boat and forming new friendships. However, tensions rise when a mysterious figure begins sending poison pen letters with disturbing messages and photos hidden inside jellies left on villagers' doorsteps, and some point fingers at Martin, who dismisses the accusations as absurd.
