Edge of the City background

Edge of the City

A poignant tale of unlikely friendship unfolds in the bustling streets of New York City, where two dockworkers form a strong bond, only to see their relationship tested by the arrival of a charismatic punk rock enthusiast who disrupts their routine.

Axel North, a drifter, arrives in New York City after traveling across the country. He finds work as a stevedore on the dockyards with corrupt gang boss Charlie Malick, who requires payola and is racist towards his colleague, Tommy Tyler. Despite being new to the area, Tommy tries to befriend Axel to help him escape Charlie's control. Axel is slow to open up, sharing basic information about his past, including his strained relationship with his police officer father. He is also hesitant to get involved with Ellen Wilson, a friend of Tommy and Lucy's, who they try to set him up with. As Axel's past threatens to catch up with him, he considers fleeing, despite having formed his first genuine friendships in a long time. An incident involving Charlie and Tommy may bring their issues to a head.
