Dr. Rosemary Walsh, a convicted mercy killer, is taken hostage by gangsters Nick and Baldy to break out their molls from a state prison farm. After being released, Rosemary seeks refuge in a shack near a swamp, where she meets Luke Walker and helps him with his broken leg. Local doctor Steve Carey discovers her true identity and takes her to his plantation, where she assists him and they grow close. Despite the danger, Steve proposes marriage and they get a marriage license, but Rosemary's true identity is soon revealed, leading to a series of events that ultimately result in Steve's arrest and trial.
