A Hamburg artist's life is disrupted by the unsolved murder of her Taiwanese lover, Ai-ling. She creates a video-installation in Taipei, where a mysterious journalist named Mei-li approaches her. Mei-li tries to seduce Sophie, but she rejects her, still grieving her lost lover. Mei-li later shows up at Sophie's doorstep, and they begin a romantic relationship. However, Sophie discovers that Mei-li is secretly investigating Ai-ling's death, and that Mei-li may not even exist.
