A rancher discovers a mutated sheep embryo, which is taken to a secret lab where Dr. Clemens and his assistant Mariposa study it. They find that phosphorus vapors from an old mine may be the cause of the mutation, linked to a local legend about a monster. The creature is placed in an incubation chamber, but soon morphs into an 8-foot monstrosity that escapes and terrorizes the town.
